SOBE Game - play free & win good stuff!

SOBE has a game online that you can play once a day (for free) until September 14th. The game is quick (Takes 2-3 minutes) and at minimum you will win a “buy one get one free” SOBE coupon. I have been playing once a day (actually I often have my son play it) for about a month and have so far won (besides the daily BOGO Q's) 3 Free Sobe’s (these will come in the mail via coupon) and a prize (which I am not going to say since I know it will be the PERFECT birthday present for a certain somebody!) I plan to keep playing as I would really love to win the computer (though doubtful), but in the meantime I will just take the Free Sobe’s. I don’t normally drink Sobe, but when I get these coupons I will apply them toward my Coupon Doubling threshold which I will explain in a later blog. Happy Gaming! Here’s the site:

**To play you will need to create an account.  I just use my Facebook account, but you can also create an account.  If you create an account (or if you win anything) you will need to enter your mailing address and email address. You will need to create an email address just for these types of offers and freebies.  This way you can keep the manufacturers from cluttering up your email inbox.  You can create another email account (via yahoo, hotmail, gmail or your favorite server) and ALWAYS use this email for these online freebies and deals. NEVER use your personal address that you use for friends since you don’t want to have SPAM from companies cluttering up your personal account.

Being Green with Laundry Detergent

Do you have a water softener? Then this article is for you! This is a little something I learned from the “Culligan Man”.

Did you know you only need about 1 Tablespoon of detergent for a large load of laundry when you have a water softener? When you use a water softener, many of the hard minerals are removed from your water allowing for the soap to work better. In fact, if you use too much detergent, your clothes may actually get soap buildup! Most detergents come with a measuring scoop or cap. The measurements that the product gives you is based on HARD water. However, many people (especially those in the Madison area), have a softener and don’t need that amount of detergent. How do you determine how much detergent you actually need? Start with one tablespoon and run a load. See how your clothes turn out. If they don’t smell clean or still appear dingy, try again with a little more. Figure out what works with your water and machine. This experiment will save you money in the end.

Then after you figure out how much detergent to use for your washing machine—go do it with your dishwasher! You will be shocked on how changing the amount of detergent will save you money and still get your clothes and dishes clean! (Your detergents should last you at least 3X longer!)

(I have not tried this out with the new “ultra” detergents, so I am unsure what the detergent amounts would be with these.)

So, what did you find when you "Tested" your detergent?

$1/LB CHEESE-- ROCK BOTTOM PRICE—THIS SATURDAY at Hyvee!

Hyvee is advertising a 12 hour sale this Saturday (July 31) 8 AM – 8 PM. The BIG sale item is shredded cheese at 0.99 per 6 – 8 oz bag. This is the LOWEST price you will find shredded cheese. (It is the end of National Dairy Month, so we probably won't see a sale like this for a while.) There is a limit of 10, so I will be stocking up and putting them in the freezer. Here are some other GREAT deals at Hyvee while you’re there:

Hyvee Shredded Cheese 6 -8 OZ $0.99 each limit 10

Hyvee 100% OJ half gallon $0.99 limit 2

Little Debbie Snacks $0.88 limit 10

Green Fare canned beans or corn $0.29 limit 8 (I use canned corn when making salsa)

Red seedless grapes $0.99 lb

Plums $0.98 lb

Hyvee’s Deli Sliced ham $1.49 lb limit 5 (this is a great price! I may stock up and put in ziplock bags to freeze. Deli meat freezes great!)

Hyvee Peanut butter $0.88 limit 1. Use coupon in flyer ($1.00 is my buy price for peanut butter, so this is a great deal!)

Betty Crocker Cake mix $0.69 limit 1. Use coupon in flyer

Hyvee Pasta Sauce $1.00

If they don’t have the sale items you want at Hyvee, be sure to ask the cashier for a raincheck. Hyvee rainchecks are GREAT because they do not put an expiration date on them—then you don’t have to worry about coming back until they have another great sale!

Kohl's 60 - 80% off clothes & Target up to 75% off toys and clothes

$5.00 at Target

I spent $2.40 on Ky's outfit and $6.40 on Alaina's 3 pieces of clothes at Kohl's this past week.  End of July/beginning of August is the time to stock up on summerwear you need for next year.  If you have a Kohl's card, be sure to use it with your 15% off card you got in the mail.  If you have a Discover card, you should have received $10 off a $20 purchase at Kohl's making your clearance prices even less!

Target is also doing great clearance deals.  I just raided clothes and got 2 pairs of shorts and 2 shirts for $5.00!  I also purchased 3 Christmas presents and only spent $9!  (I am not going to post pics of presents, because I don't want to ruin the surprise for loved ones!)

$6.40 at Kohl's
FYI--Target East has 75% off toys.  Target Sun Prairie does not  yet have the toys marked down.  I am sure they will do that in the next week.  (Target Sun Prairie also has a larger selection of clearance clothes at this time.)   Get out there while you can!

My first green entries are primarily about clothes, but that is because of my timing in getting this blog launched. Did you know the best times of the year to buy clothes (for the following year ) are End of July/Early August and End of January/Early February? These are my “buy” times for new clothes. I also have goal prices for my kids clothes (my personal goal is around $2/item), which helps me keep my buying in perspective.  I also keep a list of what I need for the kids (that way I don’t buy too much of one item and not enough of another.)

What did you score at Target/Kohl's?
